Mayens de Riddes in summer
The area around Mayens de Riddes is huge and known for its usually good weather. Mayens de Riddes (La Tzoumaz) lies in a green valley - the Rhone Valley - and the landscape is breathtakingly beautiful and varied. "La Tzoumaz" comes from the French word "tzoumer", which means pause. The village is ideal in for those seeking tranquility and want to unwind. La Tzoumaz is located at the end of the mountain pass which makes it a quiet village as a final station without al lot of traffic.

Zomer in ZwitserlandLes Quatre Vallées is one of the largest ski areas in Western Europe, but it also offers a range of sights, relaxation facilities and natural beauty in spring and summer.
There are countless opportunities to relax, for example by staying on the mountain pastures in addition to hiking, fishing in the freshwater lakes, sunbathing or simply enjoying the vastness that nature offers there.

Zomervakantie in de bergenThe historical monuments of the Valais landscape include the so-called "bisses" (Sentier des Bisses) since the 14th century. These irrigation canals are open slots that spread the water over the grasslands, vineyards and orchards. Many hiking trails along these historic canals invite visitors for varied walks along the way. one of them runs steadily up the mountain slope behind our apartment complex. Definitely worth following through the landscape and afforestation.

In a few hours walking downhill through the alpine meadows you reach Is & eacute; rable, a flower village situated vertically against a mountain wall with its specifically historically preserved characteristics.

If you want to make an effort, you walk uphill to even the summit of Mont Fort at 3,300 m via various higher mountain paths, stone avalanches and lakes. Flora and fauna are unparalleled there. The top of the Mont Fort can also be reached with the lifts. When you register at the tourist office on arrival and pay tourist tax (€1,25 per day of stay for children, €2,50 per day of stay for adults) you will receive a pass for all lifts in the area that connect nicely. At the Tourist Office you will receive a map with all the walking routes in the area for different levels, light, medium and heavy. It is also possible (in advance) to book an overnight stay in a mountain hut (La Cabane).
Those who are looking for more challenges prefer to hire a mountant bike or scooter in La Tzoumaz or Verbier and to descend via a pre-set route of a total of 45 km. You are then taken to great heights with the lifts - even to just below Mont Fort - to then descend to the place of departure, with here and there a brief fierce climb. In the high mountains there is also mountain climbing and parasailing.
